Fulham season 2008/2009

A step away form relegation

Fulham needed Roy Hodgson's magic to save themselves from relegation. They have marked four wins in the last five rounds and made a miracle, few people believed it was possible. Still, the surviving in the last round wasn't their plan before the season started. Al Fyed invested even 25 million pounds under Sanchez's recommendation, and Lawrie Sanchez used the money to bring the players that failed to prove that they posses the Premier League quality. He paid for it with his job in December and Roy Hodgson had to save the season. It all turned out well in the end but neither Al Fyed nor the Cottagers fans are ready to lose their nerves and money in the same way again.

Hodgson's back-ups

Fulham could be the surprise of the season this year. Not so much because of the summer activities as much because of the fact that during January and July, Hodgson reinforced the team with the players that agree with the style he is trying to impose on his squad. McBride and Bullard are team leaders which they proved during spring, but next year they will have all the help of potentially great tandem Andy Johnson – Bobby Zamora. All of the other line sin the team are reinforced so it is imminent that Fulham are stronger than last season in spite of the fact that McBride left. Key players will be Jimmy Bullard and Fulham's position will mostly depend on his form and cooperation with the attacking tandem.

In

Andrew Johnson (Everton), Schwarzer (Middlesbrough), Zamora, Pantsil (West Ham), Gera (West Brom), Teymourian (Bolton), , Kallio (Young Boys Bern), , Stoor (Rosenborg), Zuberhuler (Xamax), Stockdale (Darlington)

Out

Stalteri (Tottenham), McBride (Chicago), Christanval, Bocanegra (Rennes), Warner (Hull City), Batista (Sporting Lisbon), Omozusi, Stefanovic (Norwich), Bouazza (Charlton)

Goal: avoid relegation zone

After the disappointing season, the only goal for the Cottagers in the new one will be to avoid the drama relegation battle brings in the final rounds. Besides the trio Bullard, Zamora, Johnson, Fulham's main weapon will be experience Roy Hodgson has and which will definitely help avoid form dips. The most important thing for Fulham is to start the season well and if they take the necessary points in the opening rounds, the rest of the season could even bring them the midtable. Al Fyed will definitely provide the means during January for Hodgson to reinforce his squad, so we believe that the Cottagers won't have similar problems like last season.

Our tip: Not to be relegated
