The best club outside the big four
In the past few years Everton are closest to the big four. Although we can't say that they are always the favourites, Moyes and his lads have shown they can fight and get the result. They ended 5th last season, 6th the season before that, and we shouldn't forget that four years ago they were the last team that broke the big four domination and qualified for the Champions League. Even with these successes Everton are not starting this season as UEFA Cup favourites. Objectively both Tottenham and Aston Villa have better squad while Everton are in the group together with Newcastle, Portsmouth and Manchester City who hope that can jeopardize them. Repeating the success from the last season would be a feat
The same squad relying on experience
Although the transfer window is not over yet, we can say that Everton kept the last season's squad and that they will start the new season hoping that experience will be enough for success. Preparation matches didn't prove this theory, but experience teaches us that we shouldn't underestimate Moyes' squad. The only important player who left the team is Andrew Johnson whose transfer to Fulham isn't much of a loss for Everton. On the other hand Moyes is active on the market, but Everton is still without back-ups which is making the fans nervous only a week before the start of the season. The most famous name among potential signings is certainly Portuguese, Moutinho, and also Alan Smith, former Leeds, member is mentioned, as well as Manchester United and Newcastle man Wagner Love, Brazilian international currently in CSKA and M'Bia, Rennes midfielder. With these four, Everton would certainly increase the chances in the forthcoming season, although each of them will need time to adjust

Tough season
Although Everton can surprise, we don't believe that this will be their season. The Toffees were late with the transfer market activities during the summer and if they bring back-ups, the first part of the season will definitely be spent on their adjusting. Without the mentioned players, and with the fact that they are about to play in Europe too, Moyes simply doesn't have enough quality to repeat the result from the last season. Of course, Everton will be at the top but closer to the middle than to big four.
