Derby County season 2008/2009

Tough season in front of Rams

Last season in Premier League, Rams suffered an unbelievable disgrace. After the promotion to the elite company through the play-off, Derby County will be remembered by recording a single win in the entire Premier League season with the total of 11 points and even 89 goals conceded. In the middle of the last season, former successful Wigan chief had come to replace the experienced Billy Davies. Never the less, not even Jewell had been able to help the team. They went through a lot of changes in January, all fruitless. Their promotion was obviously premature, providing only difficulties and mind blocks that can only trouble the team in its new season in Championship.

Squad clean-up once again

Pride Park team made another squad clean-up before the new season. Departure list begins with Robert Earnshaw (Nottingham Forest), Michael Johnson (Notts County), Kenny Miller (Glasgow Rangers), Lee Holmes (Southampton), Craig Fagan (Hull City), David Jones (Wolves), Darren Moore (Barnsley). Kris Commons (Nottingham Forest), Paul Connolly (Plymouth Argyle), Jordan Stewart (Watford), Nathan Ellington (Watford), Paul Green (Doncaster), Steve Davies (Tranmere Rovers), Martin Albrechtsen (West Brom), Przemyslaw Kazmierczak (Porto, loan), Rob Hulse (Sheffield United) all arrived.

Consolidation season at Pride Park

Rams have got a solid squad but it is questionable if Derbyshire boys would cope with healing last season’s wounds. If they head on a roll, everything is possible, even the promotion back to the Premier League. But, if they happen to head on a bad run, then even the relegation fight is not an invalid option. As we see it, this is one of the least predictable teams in the league, most likely to end up in the middle. They have a season of consolidation in front of them and it appears everyone would be extremely pleased with the safe middle seat.
