Deportivo season 2008/2009

Two different faces

Last season saw two different faces of Deportivo. IN the first part Deportivo played weak and marked negative results. As the result of such play and the results by the end of the first part they were at the bottom looking at a huge gap behind their rivals. Deportivo were already seen as one of the main contenders for moving down to the lower rank of the competition. Patience and faith of the management in coach Miguel Angel Lotina turned out to be the right move and the results followed. They marked several series of excellent games that showed all the quality and great talent of this young Ls Coruna club. Blue-white almost ended the championship on one of the European positions.

Quality back ups

Deportivo have something to hope for. Only excellent Willhelmsson left and the team is reinforced by quality players. Keeper Daniel Aranzubia came from Athletic Bilbao, and excellent defender Ze Castro and striker Miguel Angel Mista, who couldn't get a chance in the tough competition with Aguero and Forlan, arrived from Atletico Madrid. Both of them are quality players who will additionally reinforce the quality line-up. Talented Oscar Laure was promoted from Deportivo B and we expect interesting performance from him. Perhaps the most important thing is the fact that MIguel Angel Lotina stayed on the bench. With him in charge and well trained squad, the fans have nothing to worry about.

In

Aranzubía (Athletic), Ze Castro (Atletico), Mista (Atletico), Bravo (Chivas de Mexico); Pablo Álvarez (Racing de Santander); Adrian and Jairo (Alaves); Rodri (Poli Ejido)

Out

Coloccini (Newcastle), Momo, Aythami and Alex Bergantinos (Xerez), Ruben Castro (Huesca), Adrian Lopez (Malaga)

The year of big hopes

After several draught seasons, this one seems to be marked by Deportivo. The crisis of the generation switch is over; the team stabilized and one of the best Spanish coaches sits on their bench. All parts of the team are covered and Coloccini, Lafita, Sergio, Mista, Ze Castro, Cristian, Bodipo, Valeron, Manuel Pablo and the rest. These are all internationals in various categories, former or future national squad members of the team that won the European title. If they play like in the second part last year, Deportivo can hope for one of the European places. Position from 5th to 8th place would be no surprise. Anything more than that would be a surprise.

Our tip: Better postion then Racing Santander
