Generation 1985
Valon Behrami
Valon Behrami (1985) : This Albanian who moved from Kosovo together with his family, is one of the most talented Swiss players of the new generation. He started out in Chiasso in Italian canton where he drew a bigger club Lugan's attention to himself. Considering that he played for all of the youth national squads, the Italian scouts have noticed him. After the odyssey in Genoa and gaining experience in Verona, he moved to Lazio in summer of 2005. Over the last few season he has grown to be one of the most appreciated young players in Italy. He might change the club this summer and his freedom is worth about 15 million euros. There are offers, mostly form Spanish clubs.
Phillipe Senderos
Phillipe Senderos (1985) : London Arsenal's firm defender is regular in Kuhn's plans. Since the first years of playing for Servet he has drawn attention to himself with an unusual mobility for this type of player. Arsenal were the quickest, so Senderos has in the last four years played in 64 Gunners' games. He is standard in the national squad since 2005. Interesting thing about this player is that his father was from Spain and mother from Serbia; he speaks six languages and his brother also plays in Swiss national team but in basketball.
Tranquillo Barnetta
Tranquillo Barnetta (1985) : Another player that shone in youth national squad. This Italian-born player is a true engine of the squad and one of the most interesting young players on the Old Continent. He was noticed while playing in St Gallen and then he moved to Germany where he played for Hannover and now he is perhaps the key player in Bayer Leverkusen. He had his debut in the national squad in 2004 but his real premiere was in World Cup 2006 when he was one of the best young players of the tournament. So far he has marked 29 caps for his national squad.
Alexander Frei
Alexander Frei (1979): Excellent attacker is leading older players in the national squad; his international career coincides with Kuhn's appointment. Swiss strategist confidant has scored 32 goals in 56 caps and he will probably soon break the record in the number of goals scored for the national squad. After excellent game in Swiss league for Servette where he scored 36 goals in two seasons he moved to a stronger French league where he also won the best scorer title. His career has been going upwards; two years ago he penned a contract with Dortmund. He was not so explosive in Bundesliga this year; he even lost his place in the starting eleven but this is the result of injury not weak form. Nevertheless, he will lead the attack of his national squad in EURO 2008.
