Friendlies only for hosts

The Swiss like the other co-hosts of the competition, Austria didn't go through qualifications, so they played in a series of friendlies, creating the squad for the final tournament in the last two years. After euphoria in the World Cup, Kobi Kuhn's squad continued with good play, won few matches in succession but the defeat by Austrians has slowed them down a bit.

We should mention that Switzerland showed great potential in the duels with Argentina and Netherlands, although we can't judge a team by the play in friendlies. They won Oranje while they drew with the Gauchos. It was a great boost for the national squad that intend to advance to the next stage as departing coach Kuhn says. Regardless of the result, he will be replaced by Ottmar Hitzfeld, present Bayern boss and certainly the most successful Swiss coach in history.
